We bought this for our cats as two of them love to drink from a running faucet, but we were tired of cat hair on the countertops, messy sinktops, and wasting water. All three of our cats enjoy the Drinkwell, although it took one of them about a week to overcome her fear of it. I think the running motor, although very quiet, freaked her out a bit. That last kitty, though, really loves the Drinkwell now. But, I would recommend leaving a bowl of water out until you are sure the cats are using it.
